EXPOSING THE ENEMY IN RECOVERY

The only way to expose the enemy is to reveal the truth to the deceived.[counterfeit]
According to Proverbs 23:7, "As a man thinks in his heart...he is!" In other words, unless a person in recovery pulls away from the "ADDICT" identity, he will maintain a mentality that will make it convenient to use drugs. (Hunt, 2010)
I'll use another example so you can grasp at this analogy a little better. If a man thinks of himself as an adulterer, then he is not surprised to find himself in bed with someone other than his wife. If he is confronted with this issue, he will simply think to himself, "This is who I am." This type of identity crisis must be exposed and turned towards Christ. Individuals must lose their identity of "Drug Addict" and embrace their true identity as "A child of God."
Our past does not define who we are. What are your thoughts concerning the importance of your identity in recovery?

  1. Sex, drugs, alcohol, pornography, rape, child abuser, over eating, gossiping, larceny, etc. all of these can be addictive behaviors due to an identity crisis!

  2. Thank you for that added information. You are truly a blessing to this page. Every addictive behavior that you spoke of has to be addressed and put under the very exposure I am speaking of. When we know who we are in Christ we will strive to transform our minds and live according the Word of God. And conform to the image of Christ.

    Be Blessed
